WOOD FLOORING INSTALLATION SERVICE
We offer a solid oak flooring installation service within a distance of
approximately 25 miles from Hertford to cover Hertfordshire,
Cambridgeshire, Bucks, Berks , Essex and London.
BASIC COST
The basic cost of installing a solid wood or engineered
wood floor and labour for finishing on site is about £30 per square
metre onto a timber subfloor. If there is a concrete subfloor, we
generally use Lecol MS50 wood flooring adhesive, which we consider to
be the best on the market. A 5 litre tub costs about £87 and will have
an approximate coverage of 15 M2.
FINISHING MATERIALS
In addition, you will need oil or lacquer to finish the
solid oak floor on site. You may also need some finishing trims, if you
are retaining your skirting boards and thresholds at doorways and where
your new wood floor meets eg carpet

SUB FLOOR PREPARATION
Where a concrete screed has been laid in a new extension
or new build, sufficient time must be allowed for the screed to dry out
before installation and the normal guide is to allow one day for every
1mm of thickness. (One inch per month). Moisture is the one real enemy of a solid wood floor. Then, prior to installation of
the timber floor, a liquid damp proof membrane should be applied. On
old concrete floors, which may not be perfectly level, a latex
self-levelling compound should be put down.
Our floors are mainly 20mm thick, which is a structural thickness, so
they can be installed directly onto joists.
ACCESSORIES
We also offer a range of oak skirting boards, architraves
and door liners, which are a perfect complement to the installation of
your new solid oak floor.
FINISHING
Remember, there is a difference between European Oak and
Mongolian Oak or American White Oak. This difference becomes apparent
when the floor is varnished or oiled. The grain of European Oak is much
more distinctive and will give a much richer finish.
Our flooring has been pre-sanded in the factory, so only a light
sanding is required on site. It has also been filled where necessary
e.g. around a knot. Having vacuumed the floor to remove any grit, we
recommend a light coating of oil or lacquer, which should then be
buffed to ensure there is no pooling of the liquid. After the
recommended period, a second coat should be applied in the same way.

Our latest products are oils combined with a hardener to give the hardest wearing finish on the market.
